"In 2008, I decided to introduce an innovative course in Social Marketing Issues: a field experience as part of the concentration in marketing for non-profit. The course encompassed a two weeks trip to Ghana with my students, where a theoretical approach to social marketing was combined with a hands-on experience with NGOs and intergovernmental organizations operating in Ghana.

Students came to know the daily routines of these organizations and could speak at length with their members of staff. In this way, students had the opportunity to appreciate the challenges that non-profit organizations face in less-developed countries. Students had also a full immersion in the Ghanaian and Western African culture and life during the two weeks in Ghana.

When back to Italy, students chose one NGO, which help malnourished children in the Accra Liberian Refugee Camp that we visited and they implemented a fund raising project called Jump and Glimpse for Africa. As part of the project, students organized two separate events, a rock concert and a photographic exhibition accompanied by percussion instruments and traditional African dances. At the end, the funds that students raised were directly employed in the Children Center of the Saint Gregory Catholic Clinic, one of the reference centers for tuberculosis situated in the Buduburam Liberian Refugee Camp.

I strongly believe that this was a life-changing experience for my students, who came to realize that Ghana is not just a country to help and support but a complex combination of beauty, challenges and culture. Also, students became conscious that they can really make the difference in their future professional life and contribute to make the world a better and fairer place to live in."

" I went to Ghana with my school, not knowing what to expect.  It was my first (and hopefully not the last) visit to Africa.  Upon arrival, I was greeted and welcomed with smiles from unfamiliar faces... "You're welcome," everyone said.  Once I got settled in Kokrobitey, I was introduced to many people whom I now consider very dear to me, like Patrick.  He always led us to new, exciting places, like Cape Coast, Kakun National Park and social gatherings, like a derber where we celebrated Chief Togby's anniversary.  At Cape Coast, you could experience more of the history of the people while appreciating the beauty of the Ghanaian coast.  Kakun National Park was a real treat, as we had the privilege of sleeping over night in the forest and walking across the canopy bridges in the morning.  Kakun was absolutely stunning!  Beautiful sounds of birds, monkeys, trees surround you as you make your way cross the canopy bridges.  It was surely a breathtaking experience.  At the derby, there were African dancing, drums, singing, and it was by far the best cultural experience I have ever had.  These are just small examples of so many amazing places Patrick guided us to.  He always went the extra mile to take excellent care of us and to make sure we felt comfortable and safe.  But, even more than being an extraordinary guide, he also warms your heart with his quirky and fun personality and wisdom.  I remember one night in particular when he shared many Ghanaian tales with me, even in the midst of the busy schedule he had.  We played ping pong and had a blast playing Ludo, his way.  Without Patrick, my visit to Ghana would just not have been the same.  I miss him dearly and am incredibly grateful to have had him as our guide."

"There are not enough words to describe such an amazing experience as visiting Ghana. The people, the food, and the culture hand in hand open one’s eyes to the beauty of the country. Ghana will always hold a special place in my heart."
